Gmail Promotions Tab Keeping You From Our Emails? A Two-Minute Filter Fix

Gmail sorts mass emails into the Promotions tab automatically. To make Rise Realty Texas emails from info@riserealtytexas.com land in your Primary tab, create a Gmail filter on a computer: search for the sender, click Create filter, check Never send it to Spam and Categorize as Primary, then save. It takes about two minutes. Outlook users: the Outlook steps are further down this page.
Why do Rise Realty Texas emails land in the Gmail Promotions tab?
Gmail sorts incoming mail into inbox tabs such as Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums. Emails that go out to many recipients at once, like brokerage announcements, training reminders and agent updates, are commonly treated as bulk mail and placed in Promotions. Gmail makes that call on its own, so it does not mean anything is wrong with your account or with the message.
The practical effect is that important Rise Realty Texas notices can sit unread in a tab you rarely open. A filter tells Gmail that mail from our address always belongs in your Primary tab, so you see it with the rest of your day-to-day email.
Does clicking “Not promotions” on one email fix it for future emails?
No. Opening a Rise Realty Texas email in Promotions and clicking Not promotions moves only that one message to Primary. It does not apply to the emails that follow, so the next mass email can land in Promotions again. A filter is the reliable fix because it applies to every new email from our address.
How do I create a filter so info@riserealtytexas.com always goes to Primary?
Use a laptop or desktop, because Google’s filter instructions are written for Gmail on a computer. Follow these steps:
- Open Gmail at mail.google.com.
- In the search box at the top, click Show search options (the small sliders icon at the right end of the box).
- In the From field, type info@riserealtytexas.com.
- At the bottom of the search window, click Create filter.
- Check Never send it to Spam.
- Check Categorize as: and choose Primary from the dropdown.
- Optional: check Always mark it as important, and check Also apply filter to matching conversations to move emails you already have.
- Click Create filter to save.
Is there a shortcut if I already have one of our emails open?
Yes. Open the Rise Realty Texas email, click More (the three dots), and choose Filter messages like these. Gmail fills in the sender for you. Click Create filter, check the same options as above, and save.
How do I confirm the filter is working?
Click Settings, choose See all settings, and open the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab. Your new filter appears in the list, and you can click Edit or Delete next to it at any time. The real test is the next email from info@riserealtytexas.com: it should arrive in Primary.
A filter applies to new incoming messages. If you did not check the option to apply it to existing conversations, older emails stay where they are until you move them to Primary yourself.
How do I keep Rise Realty Texas emails in the Focused tab in Microsoft Outlook?
Outlook’s version of the Gmail Promotions tab is the Other tab, which is part of Focused Inbox. To keep Rise Realty Texas emails in Focused, open the Other tab, right-click one of our emails, and choose Always move to Focused inbox in new Outlook or Always Move to Focused in classic Outlook. Future emails from that sender then arrive in Focused.
- Check that Focused Inbox is on. In new Outlook, go to View > View Settings > Mail > Message List and check Sort messages into Focused and Other. If you do not see Focused and Other tabs at the top of your inbox, this setting is why.
- Click the Other tab at the top of your inbox.
- Right-click an email from info@riserealtytexas.com.
- In new Outlook, choose Move > Always move to Focused inbox. In classic Outlook, choose Always Move to Focused.
Choosing only Move to Focused moves that single message and does not apply to future emails, so use the “Always” option. Microsoft notes that Focused Inbox does not work with shared mailboxes.
What if Rise Realty Texas emails go to the Junk folder in Outlook?
Add our address to your Safe Senders list. In new Outlook, click the Settings gear icon, go to Mail > Junk email, scroll to Senders, and open the Safe senders and domains tab. Click + Add safe sender, enter info@riserealtytexas.com, select OK, then select Save. Classic Outlook and Outlook on the web use slightly different menus, so search Microsoft’s help for “Safe Senders list” if your screen does not match.
What if Gmail still puts Rise Realty Texas emails in Promotions or Spam?
Work through these checks in order:
- Check Spam. If a Rise Realty Texas email is in the Spam folder, open it and click Not spam.
- Check the From address. The filter must match info@riserealtytexas.com exactly. A typo means the filter never fires.
- Add the sender to your contacts. Hover over the sender’s name in an email and choose Add to contacts.
- Move stragglers by hand. For a message already sitting in Promotions, open it and click Not promotions. This moves only that message.
If your inbox shows no tabs at all, tabs are turned off and Promotions is not the cause. In that case, check Spam first.
What if I use an email service other than Gmail or Outlook?
This article covers Gmail and Outlook. If you use a different email service, run a simple internet search for your email service plus a phrase like “send emails to my main inbox” or “add a safe sender.” Every email service handles this differently, and that search will show the steps for your particular situation.
